  • According to who you believe the world has reached "peak oil" or will reach it within our lifetimes, energy, goods and services are going to increase in cost unless we bite the bullet and follow a much more aggressive renewable energy policy here in the UK.

BTW, I've got one of those solar battery rechargers and it works a treat ^_^

  • Couldn't agree more, thanks for commenting!

  • I'm kinda saddened by the fact peak oil and energy security aren't being talked about at all in this country, the oil fields in the north sea peaked in 1999 and are only going to decline from here on in which means year on year the UK is gonna have to import more and more oil at the same time as the supplies are declining and the new markets of China and India are fighting for a bigger share of whats left pushing up prices, the smart move for us would be to get into renewables heavily now.

  • Thats very true, the good thing is people are starting to look into renewable energy and many people are saying that the green energy age will be as big as the industrial revolution and the more recent internet boom. Renewable energy is one of the fastest growing technologies of our time.

  • I had a brain storm the other day, there are hundreds of thousands of street lights in the UK, what if we were to place a one foot square solar panel on top of each one ?, during the hours of daylight the light is switched off anyway and the connection to the grid could be used to add power rather than take it !!!!, that would be a huge square footage of solar panels or P.V. panels with no impact on the countryside or places of outstanding natural beauty.

  • I read your comment and did a youtube search for solar street lights.

100s of solar street lights have been installed in Fallujah, Iraq. Have a look at the youtube video titled 'Solar Streetlights for Fallujah.'

Solar power is popular in many places, particularly Africa, the middle east and even Germany and Sweden, it just hasn't taken off here yet.

  • At $10-15 a watt, its hardly affordable. I think solar will become popular around $1 a watt.

  • You know what bugs me? You can install solar on your home or business today for about 7-9 bucks and the return is less then ten years but most don't see this...everyone wants this deal that simply won't come...so you buy a car pay 30-40 K and in 2 years it's worth less then half, you buy a boat and in one month it's worth less then half...what's up with people....their just followers and not leaders that the prop! Lead people... don't wait do it today! Rebates tax credit today!
