You have done a beautiful job and I would be extremely proud of your workmanship! I want so badly to do the same thing. Living in remote nevada it would be no problem solar heating and solar powering it with possibly a wind generator to pick up the slack when it's raining. Great job and thanks for posting this. There is certainly no need for a 20 year mortgage eating you alive every month!

oops! I just seen that this was back in 2009 and this is not your home. It is a weekend cottage. Very nice.

@ozcontainerhouse Not bad...what about the property (land)? Here in my town, it could run me another $160K + 15,000k( your estimation for the above containers) = $165k. Give or take, would I really see the savings? Or buying an ordinary house is still the way to go?

I don't know what they used but look up ceramic insulation. It sprays on like paint and reflects heat away from the home. It works better than anything else around. There are many brands. Super Therm is just one of them. When ever I build my own that is what I will use.
all that carpentry! wow! you people are real pros.
I love a good wood job.
by the way, where I come from converting containers into everything is a regular thing but nothing and I do mean nothing as lovely as yours.
beautiful.

@Israellite1 Appreciate your feedback. Thanks. It is still very much a work in progress, but we love spending time there.

How well does it handle direct sunlight and the internal heater? I didn't see you install any insulation.

@kopvp It is hard to see, but the container is insulated. We used extruded foam sheeting under the plywood walls, which helps keep the container a bit warmer in winter and a bit cooler in summer. The roof also adds a good level of sun protection. When the stove is on, the container quickly heats up to 22-25C inside, but overnight it can get pretty chilly. Ventilation is provided by the double sets of doors. All in all, very comfy! FYI, most containers lose a lot of heat through the floor.

@x0fx3 About A$15,000 for the two containers, delivery and materials. And a lot of elbow grease.
