Junction Bridge, connecting Little Rock's River Market and North Little Rock's Riverfront Park over the Arkansas River, officially opened Saturday, May 17th, 2008 as a footpath for pedestrians and bicyclists.
It first opened in 1884 as an 1,800-foot bridge to carry trains from Fort Smith to Arkansas City, but saw its last railcar in 1985 and has laid dormant until its inauguration as Central Arkansas' newest tourist attraction.
At its end on the Little Rock side is the famed La Petite Roche, the rock from whence the city gets its name.
