Why would you look at a video for Macs if you have a Windows computer? I don't need to answer that question.

how exactly do you "crop" the song??
that's my only prob ]=

The reason they dont work is because its supposed to be in .wav format, or so i heard

Try watching the video in high quality. Also, if you are familiar with your Mac, you should know whats going on anyways.

okay, so i admit this video was really helpful, i have tiger and it helped alot... but when i rename the file and put it in the theme it still doesnt work...even when i add "sound system-hinge-open-sound system-hinge-open-sound.mp3" into the theme text...its driving me nuts... HELP PLEASE

It should only say this in the theme text file:
sound system-hinge-open-sound open.mp3
sound system-hinge-close-sound close.mp3
And you should name the open hinge open.mp3 and the close hinge close.mp3
you wrote too much in the text

Thats not particularly the point of this video... But you can use the knowledge from this video and apply it to your PC, and then figure out how you can use the functionality the same.
