it's based off a loooot of languages, and scientific language is heavily influenced by latin and greek.

I understand Japan speaks Japanese but pretty much anywhere else you could survive with English at least as a turist. Japans English is from the worst end compared to any other country.

@auntbecky well both german and english descended from latin so its not that far off to say english came from latin.

at least they're trying..........i don't like to criticize my own country but here in the US we don't even really try to teach a second language. we get our panties all in a bunch about it.
