What a rousing piece. My parents made me familiar with this one back in the fifties. (My Dad would stand to attention if he heard 'God Save the Queen' even if he was in the bath). Some wonderful music has come out of Britain. Best wishes from the southern colony... Stephen Coote, Nelson, New Zealand.

Actually it was Belgum that Started WW1 as it was a Belgian gun that killed the Duke of Hungery and it was Belgum whom Briton and France ere fighting to save... even though the Belgian Kiing wouldn't let his men attack only defend - left us to do all the real work

@FacelessDeviant it isn't the national anthem. Our anthem is God save the Queen. However it is a pretty epic song along with Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and The British Grenadiers!!!

As somebody who has lived in America for 24 years I am always proud to display my Union Jack. While I personally don't believe in the Monarchy and wish they'd sod off, I will always be proud to be a British subject, no matter where in the World I am.

@LCPD9111 well as you know our nation is a very small island north of europe so we had to have a big navy to protect it from spanish armarda, france and other competitive countries like america. as our navy grew so did our empire resulting to the largest empire known to man(Canada to New Zealand), our navy played the best part in that growth therefore a song was written in honour of our age old power.
