  • Is that a PetPorte?

  • No, it is a Cat Mate Elite Super Selective.

I did try the Pet Porte first, but was very disappointed with the design of the catch. I could push it open with much less force than the staywell flap. This cat would have been straight through, so I sent it back to the manufacturer for a refund.

  • It is strong once fitted. It is impossible to push open once in the door.

  • Sorry but fitting it wouldn't make a difference, the frame is very strong and doesn't need the door to reinforce it.

The weak point is the latch which only overlaps the flap by ~2 mm not enough.

I realise you're trying to make a living selling these things, but don't make exagerated claims.

  • which cat flap is the one in the vid cause we have the same problem with a stray cat (not bob geldolf) trying to get in as well, it just brute forces its way through the staywell one we have at present

  • The one in the video is the Pet-Mate Elite Super selctive.

It's been in and working for almost a year now with no problems. A collar is still needed but the key is a lot lighter than the staywell infrared key, as there are no batteries.

I looked at quite a few cat flaps after the problems with the staywell, this one is definetly the strongest.

Hope it can solve your problem too.

  • i have a staywell, first i got the stupid infr staywell, STAY WELL AWAY from it, it is terrible, and complete waist of money, they should be shut down! The problem is 2 fold, 1. the stupid flashing sensor thing on the cat colar is so weak, it breaks, or falls off after 5 months, and it like 25 quid for a new one. It does not always open the door. Then second issue, is that just about any tom cat and simply push through the door. So i am not sure to try Cat Mate or Pet Porte.

  • That is awesome. I just ordered one of these, and I hope it works as well for me as it did for you. I'm using it for feeding boxes for two indoor cats with separate diet needs. I tried the Pet Safe door with the magnet collar tag, and my bully cat barged right through it in under ten seconds.

  • Yup, those cats go straight for the big screens!

  • The collarless idea is good, if your cat does't like collars.

But I bought a Petporte and sent it straight back for a refund. As it was much easier to force open than the staywell flap I was having problems with, the cat in the video would have been straight through it.

I felt Petporte had focused only on the collarless features of the design, the locking mechanism was very poor.
