  • No butter is not a good substitute for shortening. For some reason... butter does not allow cakes to rise. Butter is great in cookies because they don't have to rise.

  • I'm glad you are enjoying this cake recipe. I just made one for my Grandson's 14th birthday. It's his favorite.

  • whats shortening??? is it like cream?

  • Shorting is a solid fat that comes from Vegetable Oil

Lard is a solid fat that comes from Animal Fat.

  • can i please use unsweetend coca instead? without adding more sugar?

    would it ruin the cake?

  • By all means... that's what I use

  • My son who is 11 yrs old makes this cake. It is delicious. We use Brodies cake flour, and salted butter. But do not any extra salt. Instead of Buttermilk, we use ordinary milk but with a tablespoon on lemon juice. It all works perfectly. Best cake recipe we have found and so simple to make. Work well in cup cake as well. Enjoy!!

  • ilove nana thankss for video
