While diving in the Florida Keys, our dive team and submarine with crew were greeted by a curious manatee. Right inside the marina and just off the boat ramp in 15 - 20 feet of water we hovered the submersible and watched as the inquisitive creature inspected the divers and the submarine! Remember: Manatees are a protected and endangered species. There are manatee snorkel encounters (Crystal River, Florida) in which you can get right up close to them and become immersed with compassion for these docile and friendly, and interestingly odd mammals of the sea. When encountering them in the wild, keep a safe distance and show respect. SAS promotes responsible enjoyment and discovery of the underwater world.
