Historic Mohammed Ali Street. Legend has it that in it's heyday, when musicans and /or dancers were needed for hire, one would come here to find them. Once home to mainly music shops and the cafes where musicians would congregate, today furniture shops are more prevalent. But, as you will see, music stores still exist here, including that of famed percussionist Khamis Henkish. His Drum solo is included in this video, but is also presented on its own. Filmed in Cairo during a field trip of Sahra Saeeda's JtE 3- 2009 (Journey through Egypt). Thanks Sahra for getting us there AND introducing us to Khamis, with whom I returned on my own a day or two later to study with him for a couple of hours. (still pinching myself)
