  • Beautiful piece. Very interesting to hear on the Harpsichord. You can definitely hear the Bach influence.

  • Though many of Beethoven's keyboard compositions up until this time were indicated as being playable on the piano or on the harpsichord (e.g., the Moonlight sonata, which no one in his or her right mind would wish to play on the harpsichord), this piece was published with the title Prélude pour le Pianoforte. It works very nicely on harpsichord. It seems to be clearly influenced by the style of Bach. Beethoven knew all the preludes and fugues in the Well Tempered Clavier.

  • This was composed in 1803, around the time of the Eroica symphony and the Kreutzer sonata.
