First look at the SOG Visionary I folding knife. This well made easy to use knife uses the Arc Lock for safe and fast one hand opening and closing.

  • The only thing I would knock this knife for is its lack of a flipper on the back of the blade when it's folded. That's a really quick and easy way to deploy it.

Other than that, looks like a really great knife.

  • @5440Borderline

But the blade flips soo easily thought I don't miss it

  • Im looking for an EDC blade that is a decent size and easily enough to carry, how do you think the SOG Visionary l holds up against other recomended EDC blades? Great Vid by the way.

  • IMO this is a good choice for EDC, it's small, easy to use, and well made

    I'd get one again

  • I like the VG 10 steel choice but there is no assisted opening. Which would you prefer for EDC / tactical folder; Visionary II, Aegis, or the trident ?

  • I don't know all of those, but I like the Visionary I for sure

  • @5440Borderline You really don't need a flipper at all...it's incredibly easy to open and close with one hand...the SOGs I have like this and the Pentagon and X-Ray, are all the same in that respect. And even made with the super great VG-10 steel!

  • Good review.

This is an excellent knife---- My favorite and the one I carry most often.

I must add that it opens faster the more you use it.Deploys faster than my Flash 2 and feels better balanced.

    I would buy another.

Once in a while they can be found for under $100..

They feel better made than the Kershaw .I've had mine for over 1 year and the edge retention is extraordinary --- but I'm not a hard user .

  • @smoggmage

I have the trident and aegis, and I LOVE my aegis. Both knives are extremely light, and hold an edge pretty well. I have japanese water stones for my kitchen knives, so i do maintenance every 4 or so months. I think you would be happy with either, but i give the aegis the edge.

  • How is the jimping on the blade? Does it keep the thumb on the blade?

  • @GearBuyersGuide I have the full-size Vulcan and it opens really smoothly just like the one you reviewed. I just find the flipper's much quicker and easier than using the stud. Different strokes for different folks. :p

Anyone else want to see assisted versions of these two blades? I sure do.

  • I got the Visionary II because I wanted something just a bit larger. So far I love it, very fast to open and close, came hair shaving sharp, the zytel handle is quite grippy; lockup is tight and the jimping is fantastic. Only criticism I would give it is the clip simply will not accept a thicker pocket material without considerable work.
