Pictorial Life History of a 39 year old Trachycarpus fortunei palm ' Trunky Trachy' at Hardytropicals in Chalk, Kent, England. This palm has endured the -12.9C of Jan 1987, and the 38.1C heat of Aug 2003.

  • Trachycarpus survives frozen in a pot here, even self sown one leaf seedlings are fine at -6C. All round the hardiest palm for UK :wink:

  • wow 1984 to 1992! didnt thought they would grow this fast here (UK/western germany)

  • good video, banana's look great too. Are they musa banjoo? Ive just ordered 2 musa sikkimensis from the palm centre as they are meant to handle the wind slightly better than banjoo

  • These palms are called "shuro" in Japan and they are native in China.

    They are very strong against low temperature but may not be alive if their roots were iced.

  • Nice story of a palm.

    Here in Sweden it is difficult to keep a Trachy alive this very harsh winter.
