This is Teddy my Rose-Breasted Cockatoo (Galah) having a shower. The chirping in the background is one of my seven Cockatiel's wanting to get in on the fun. The horribly embarrasing squeak from me near the end is when I get sprayed with water myself... He loves to be cheeky.

  • Teddy never liked having heavy water from a hose or the shower, I tried and it didn't work. When there was heavy rain he loved hanging off the back of the chair, but knew the hose and didn't want anything to do with it.

Galah's do like water, but like people they have things they like and don't like - so before people reading these comments go blasting your poor unsuspecting bird with a heavy dump of water please take it in stages and know your birds tells for when it is unhappy or uncomforta

  • what colour eyes does teddy have, because they look red.

If they are red isnt teddy the wrong name for your galah because teddy would be female.

  • He was around 5-7 months old in this so no, theres no red eyes. (;

Only just reaching a year now and still no red eyes, but I wouldn't be expecting them for another year if it was going to happen.. Either way I don't see why Teddy couldn't be used for a female or a male.

I don't really care what sex he turns out to be - I'm quite happy and he has an amazing personality and chatters when you least expect it. :D

  • how much would this cute parrot cost ?

  • The bird itself is not the biggest cost. This is a perm addition to your family so it's not to be undertaken lightly. Before you even thought cost you need to think if you have the time for a bird. They need A LOT of attentiton.. Fulltime work does not go well with birds because they have no bird mate, they attach themselves to a human and don't like being away from that person all that often.

Cost of getting the bird upfront..

  • *Cage $500+ dollars. They need heaps of space in their home.

*Toys $15-30 each (need a few) and you replace these often to keep your bird amused while you're not there.

    *lice/worming stuff: $15-20 each

*bird - Anywhere from 300-700.. I paid around $500 it just depends where you get it from

*vet check straight away - ... that depends on if everything is ok or not.

Most people don't realise how much a bird will change their routines and don't keep them around for very long.

  • My God..Give the poor bird some water.....a little spritz, doesnt cut it...go ahead and blast heer... Im not sure what your afraid of

  • kaneeye - Did you talk to anyone before you bought the bird? Do you know what it needs to make it a pet or to keep it healthy? Galahs have a life span of about 70-90 years.

  • Next time there is decent rain, take him outside in his cage and watch. He will hang from one claw and scream and just muck about. He'll do laps. He'll have fun.

  • @kaneeye We bought our galah for $44 in Australia.

  • Soooo pretty!!

  • @anfeestah Also, the $500 price tag is pretty low if you're not in Australia. Australia doesn't export wild birds, so the breeding population of Galahs is very small elsewhere and prices run over $1000. If you want a parrot, study up on their needs and how to train them. If you've never owned a bird, I STRONGLY recommend starting with something like a cockatiel. They're cute, cuddly, and love to whistle but are also small and less intimidating and more forgiving if you're not used to birds.

  • i just got 1 and he goes in the shower and he loves it

  • I don't think the squirt bottle is enough. He doesn't even look wet.

Just turn the hose on him with the nozzle set to spray. You don't need to be too gentle, I've seen galahs hang upside down by one claw from power lines flapping about and looking like they are having a great time during thunder storms. They love a good drenching.

If he has had enough, he'll back off.

I'd give the same treatment to your tiels.

Parrots like to be clean and love bathing.

  • Im not doubting that. I wouldnt even suspect that if teddy was female that he/she would know that ted is a predominatly male name.

My Billy is the same, hes about 6 now, but has had brown eyes from when we got him at about 3 months.

I agree about the amazing personalities too. he can here when someone comes in the frount gate and calls hello, repetedly untill the new person greets him then, he trys to scare them away by puffing out his crest and face.

    So cute
