If you Google the lyrics to this Leonard Berstein/Betty Comden song you will see that it originally said,"New York is a helluva town" I guess that they changed it to wonderful to avoid controversy. The Longshoreman at the beginning of this clip is a S-T-U-D !

@mustangred It's all in the way it was presented here, it pre-dated MTV with all the quick cuts. The idea was probably to wow you with so many images of the city in such a short time. And I wouldn't be surprised if many of the landmarks here are no longer around, the subway cars in particular have changed. Plus the idea of shooting all this on location was a new idea, things like this would've been shot on a studio backlot. I think that was Gene Kelly's idea
