'Even as the space shuttle program comes to a close, NASA is already building its next human spacecraft, the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV), around the country. Orion is being designed and tested to go further than we've ever gone and do things the shuttle could never do, namely explore deep space. In "Orion: The Journey Begins" take a look at the progress and development of NASA's newest vehicle, which will be the most advanced human spacecraft ever built.'

  • This is proof that The U.S. just pissed away the space program over the last 30 years. NASA became an annoyance to Congress, but a PR necessary annoyance. They LET people do science IF they don't have a better war to blow the money on....just so sad.

  • This is AWESOME news - its a MUST to colonize other planets such as the Moon and Mars and to learn about our neighboring planets. Good Job NASA and its partners!

  • great, i'm excited! could someone confirm if this project was or wasn't canned by the Obama administration

  • The complaint of the shuttle was that it was a bus for moving stuff into space and a people mover, well ok.

But if this long distance orion can dock at the space station, why does it need to reenter orbit at all, shouldn't that be for a shuttle like vehicle to ferry people back n forth ?

Oh I guess you can't put a escape pod on a spaceplane, humm ?

  • I thought this was scrapped.

  • I thought Obama canned the Orion program?

It's funny that the Orion capsule looks identical to the Apollo CM (Except that it's bigger) ... If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
