Former Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen on Thursday called for international solidarity with Greece and urged EU leaders meeting in Brussels for a summit on the European economy to agree strict measures to curb excessive practices in global financial markets. Rasmussen, president of the Party of European Socialists, made his comments in Brussels ahead of a PES meeting.

  • Traitor. It was you nyrup who importet all the problem for danish people.

  • The markets do contribute to destroying the EU, the media is number 1 to blame, gamblers of the markets 2nd.

  • @dondalle Thank you for your valuable input. Unfortunately, this is not the time, nor is Europe the place, to joke about such matters.

  • @MarquisdeBarrabas That was meant as a joke, right?

  • Rassmunsen is simply lying.

It is not the "speculators" that drove Greece into the ground, it is the Greek politicians, businesses and much of the population operating in a thoroughly corrupted system.

Let's not forget, Greeks cooked the books in order to get in the eurozone and obtain all the benefits (again tens of billions).

  • @Grojzekola

You obviously do not know what the f*ck you are talking about, do you? Portugal and the UK: one country's deficit stands at 9.3% of GDP, the other at 11.8%. Guess whose deficit is proportionally the largest.

'Wasteful spendaholics'? Do you want to talk about personal debt? The total UK personal debt stands at 1.7 BILLION euros.

The Anglo-world is crumbling and this witch-hunt against the South is a pathetic attempt to drag Europe down with it.

  • Wise and urgent words by Rasmussen!

  • This is bullshit. Portugal and Greece are wasteful spendaholic countries who never balance a budget. Markets react to the risk of a country going bankrupt. Why wouldn't it?

    Sort yourself out.

  • You are quite right and I totally agree with you Poul Nyrup Rasmussen. Don't let the greedy financial speculators destroy EEC Unity and Europe.
