The complete story of the A380's maiden commercial flight SQ380, from check-in in Singapore to landing in Sydney on October 25, 2007. What a flight, what a party. Thanks to Ralf Daniellsen of Malmo Sweden for the takeoff footage. Thanks to Rob Morrison of Alcoa for the production. And thanks to Alcoa for making it all possible in more ways than one. '
Sweet!

  • 273 miles long??

  • @planeboy08 OK, I may have exaggerated by a mile or two.

  • Did Alcoa pay this guy for the viral marketing. Anyhow, thank you!....But my question is, will the A380 efficiency become cheaper flight rates?

  • Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm the guy, and Alcoa did pay me. Not bad as business trips go! And I work in the marketing department, so, full disclosure, they're paying me to let you know how great aluminum is, in airplanes and everything else. I can't answer your question about airfares. The plane is designed to reduce costs. Whether those lower costs turn into cheaper tickets is a function of what air carriers do with the more efficient machine...

  • Thanks for such a wonderful video. You did such a great job capturing the various parts of the aircraft as well as the mood.

  • I had plenty of help. Ralf's takeoff video was much better than mine, and he let me use it. (Ralf's UN is 'erdeel' -- check out his videos. And of course, SIA was very accomodating -- everybody smiling! If every business trip Alcoa sent me on was this cool, I'd take videos of them all. But I'm glad they sent me on this one!

  • 3:13 For your information again. Im flying a 747 now. Before we take off, we limit engine power to 143 knots (when 61tonnes). We can set it higher if we want. But, we must follow speeds according to runway ATIS information. for Changi Airport runway (4km), our take of speed is 132 knots.

  • Go to the Airbus site and click on A380, I think you can pay by PayPal.
