I agree, I really like these songs. I think "Madness" is my favourite of them.
I wish she had explored this direction a little more. I don't find the stuff she's done since Surfacing to be nearly as interesting as her earlier work.

No, it's all Sarah. It's somewhere between Touch and Solace. She had a distinct voice in that time period before she changed her style a little starting with Solace, singing more in her lower range.

@asocialcat By the way... I'm not really sure of anything here, and I come in peace. <3 I so think this song is beautiful and am glad that you posted it.

When I first heard this, I sensed something was off. I think, personally, that the lead singer is Jewel. It really sounds like her style. However, I think that the backup singer might be Sarah. I wonder if this is an unreleased duet that they did... just a theory. Not sure when it would have been done (probably not Solace era). Not to doubt the reputability of your sources because most of the other songs you have sound like Sarah McLachlan... (I wish this HAD been released, whatever it was.)

your welcome.
And I have absolutely no idea what she is saying at the end of the song. It's really hard to find any info on this song.

The only thing I don't understand is, if they had all these interesting demos, why did the first Rarities album have so many remixes of already released material?

I know, it's weird that these songs didn't appear on any recorded cd, record, etc. . .they are quite good. Even "What Lies Beyond" was on a compliation cd by Nettwerk.
