  • The healthiest 6.5 turbo diesel engine and a hell of a truck. Your grandfather took good care of this truck. I heard that the 6.5 wasn't the best engine that GM had made due to so many problems. But from the looks of this truck, it had to be well-maintained with no problems.

  • @mitsumivec4life Motor mounts and transmission were the only things to go bad. Its a good engine dont listen to the durafag fans lol

  • people i have talked to that had the 6,2 and 6.5 found that they were working on them too much and thought the suck compared to the new 6.6 i think the 6.6 is better tooo lol but people like different things

  • I heard the 6.6 eats injectors, plus its made by isuzu.

  • @FordNissanChevy but isuzu are world leader in diesel engine, they even replaced brand new diesel in mitsubishi and madza trucks in orient when the new laws came on and those companies couldnt meet regulation with their own engines. The early 6.6s did have injectors problems , that's why Id go with a 2000 6.5 before a 2001 6.6

  • @Veikra no, the leaders in diesel engines are Perkins, Detroit Diesel,Cummins, Navistar (IH) and CAT. They make the best and most powerful, efficient and durable engines around, and i personally think CAT is at the very top of it all.

  • @FordNissanChevy The 6.5 had a bunch of issues with spider cracks in the main cap area and crack in a cylinder until the updated block was cast. Gm never solved the main cap issues, but the military DID cast a different block that solved it. The 6.2 and 6.5 are dogs compared to a duramax, but with proper care they will last pretty good

The downside I find with the 6.2 6.5 is how much they cost to rebuild vs other diesels.

  • @mrdestoryit this is true, but you still get quite more per gasket than a ford 6.0-6.4 if you tow a lot

  • @skatecodered totally , the 7.3 is great . good mileage and reliable. My friend had one. In the years I'm looking at I couldn't get a ford since they are 6.0 and 6.4. But I'd consider a '03 7.3 turbo , cept I'm not a big fan of the dash of those.

  • @Veikra The 7.3idi diesel non turbo is an amazing engine i just hate the 6.9

  • the lock of a lock man is a hard man.

  • @FordNissanChevy but Perkins, detroit, navistar and cat dont manufacture for the pickup market anymore. And I dont think the last navistars in fords were good reliability example. I do agree on larger engine the newer CAT are some nice machines with sequential turbo and all ! I'm really looking forward to the newer reverse flow heads of the newer ford and soon duramax engines. It should provided even better boost response and thus torque.
