I have a Mercs/Pain Domination Mastermind. He keeps his pets buffed and healed like crazy while they romp through missions. I am still working on getting him higher level because I find Merc pets to be the most entertaining for my playstyle.
I'm tired of trendy people thinking that Robotics Masterminds are the only way to go.
On my old server I had a Mercs/Forcefield MM but I got sick of people begging me to buff them every 2 minutes for 6 hours a day.

merc are kinda rare now, they have a lot of bugs that probably will never be fixed ;(
It's always fun to see the soldiers and commando go full auto on a group
