This is by far the best video on making a starter for home brewers. You can tell he knows the science behind it all but it's homebrewing. Keep it simple.
I have only used smack packs twice, once I could not get the packet to break, the other was probably contamination on my part but it has put me off using these, I prefer White Labs vials
I've tried two of these smack packs both were a disaster. I never had a problem with dried yeats but these packs are hit and miss. They would be better if you could actually see inside the outer pack because there are two sachets inside and I only broke one. Consequently the outer pack would not inflate. Total waste of time and money. Also why does it need the interior nutrient? You could surely pitch the yeast inside the pack into your own nutrient.

its the other way around, the packet has the nutrients etc the yeast is in the big bag
