  • tiny issue...baking not making....:)

  • @Hoohaa61 You make hay, you don't bake it. This is coming from a farmer :o)

Plus, you can clearly hear him say "making"

  • this is wonderful. i love that glen made it his own with the beautiful guitar work. thanks for posting- does anyone know where i can find an mp3 of this?

  • A few people have asked the same question. If you want it i'll send it through email.

  • having listened to several versions of kavanaghs poem sung and recited by various artists over the years there are none that capture the very essence of the song than when sung by the late luke kelly. why any body would want to make what sounds like a tubular bells version of this great song beats me.luke kelly takes this song down to its bare orogins just a simple song .

  • Luke's version is unbeatable but is Glen Hansard not allowed to make his own version?

  • Great effin' version by GH - nearly up to the standard of LK - thanks for putting it up from a Dub stuck in France.... Pet Sounds is no more ? I hope poor auld Tom Dunne isn't on the scratch... used to have a soft spot for that particular programme. And whoever's mentioning Smiths - would y'ever stop giving me reasons to go back despite all the very good reasons not to...

  • How do you get this song through BitTorrent?

  • @GIRLxxOFxxMUSIC You can if you want? The poem is the poem, but he made the song somewhat his own by feeling it in a different way.

  • @KaiIsLegend I understand what you are saying and I never said he was crap or anything, i'm just saying this is a POEM, you don't change the words to suit yourself!

  • @GIRLxxOFxxMUSIC You can hear him say "passed". Fuck off like cmon lads its a grand version so what if its not the exact same. he's connected with the song the way only he can.

  • @MacAoidh4 AGREED

  • Great version!!! I'ld love to hear some more modern versions from Glenn of the great Irish classics!!! He's top class!!!

  • @rtenewsontwo baking tarts.

  • good version of it

  • Wonderful, simply wonderful. Admittedly its no Luke Kelly, but nonetheless who is. Beautiful. Reminds me of Hallelujah for some reason.

  • Reading some of these comments I have a feeling that I could be slated for this but, it's just my opinion :)

I think Glen Hansard's version is the best; I think he takes something tragic (story of this song/poem) and he disguises it in a lullaby type way. Of course different artists will want to make their own versions of this; why? because it's beautiful, and the fact that artists recognised that and they took the effort of making their own verison, is reason enough for me; accept diversity :)
