2 models for the time it takes to watch ONE video!! Don't say I never give you a bargain.. :) :)

KIT RATINGS:

P-51 B: Nice kit, goes together well, as long as care is taken.. Looks like a B type Mustang to me..

P-51 D: A bit simplyfied, but perfectly ok..

DECAL RATINGS: Urrrrgh! The P-51 D decals are virtually useless, very difficult to get to look good.. and Micro Sol / Set just doesn't work.. the only thing that (just about) works, is Johnsons Klear.. and sadly the P-51 D decals weren't much better.. very thin and broke easily..

I give both sets of decals a rating of 5 / 10, and strongly recommend using After Market decals instead..

Other than that I recommend both kits for a cheap but nice looking Mustang model.. a nice addition to my collection of US WWII Fighters. I will eventually get round to build the early Allison Engined Mustang A as well as an Mustrang C for a complete Mustang collection..

  • lovley models! :) I saw the D version kit at my local store but i could'nt afford it as the prize was 129 kr :P

  • @Usdownz Yes, for some reason Academy is very expensive in Sweden.. :( Och jag begriper inte varfor... kanske det ar dalig vaxelkurs mellan de svenska och koreanska valutorna? :P

  • Very nice models. I'm not really in to planes, but I built the B version, and it didn't turn out very well. I made the RAF camo.

  • @SwissCheese707 I need to build a few RAF Mustangs as well.. shame you didn't enjoy the finished result of tyour build.. :P

  • Nicely done..Kudos to you for exhibiting a "flaps down" display on the "D" model. I quite agree with you also with regard to the decal quality.

  • @BasicModelling Yes, Academy kits are still quite nice for how inexpensive they are but im worried about the quality of their decals. Im considering buying the Academy 1/72 P-40E Warhawk after im done with the P-51D. The Tamiya P-47D was an awesome build. Everything fit well and the decals were very easy to work with. I mainly stick to Tamiya models and paints but I did recently build a 1/48 Revell F-14D which turned out really nice.

  • @FeelinGipper I haven't built a Tamiya P-47 yet, in any scale... The P-47 is my favourite US WWII fighter, and I have built / will build quite a few, so have to stick to cheap and cheerful kits like Academy and Revell in 1/72.. They're still ok, especially the Revell kit, which is one of my favourite kits to build! :)

  • @BasicModelling Yeah I just broke into the P-51D model today and it is going together nicely. I looked at your 1/48 P-51 video, all i can say is it looks gorgeous. I also just finished a 1/72 Tamiya P-47D which was a really fun kit to build. I cant wait to see more of your great scale models!!! :)

  • @BasicModelling Ya I don't really mind it, because I was young (in the modelling hobby. I was only 6 months younger when I built it.) so I don't really pay much attention to my old models. Speaking of, (sorta) I just finished my Jagdpanther, so now I'm gonna do my Maus, and then post both of the reviews.

  • @FeelinGipper Most Tamiya kits are very good and fun builds.. haven't come across one yet that caused me any major problems, or that I haven't enjoyed building.. :) The Tamiya 1/72 P-51 D is on my list to get at some point, I have already built the 1/48 scale Tamiya version.. :)..
