Balearic Folk Orchestra's first show, Green Man 2010.
The Balearic Orchestra is the brainchild of Stephen Cracknell from the Memory Band and film-maker Kieran Evans. Hatched over a long night of drinking at GreenMan a few years back, a conversation over euphoric house tracks turned into a full blown analysis of what makes great dance music.
From there an acoustic guitar was whipped out, a few chords were strummed, notes were plucked and plans were made. The Balearic Orchestra was formed. So the concept is a simple one. Gather like minded friends and musicians together and get them to re-intepret classic acid house tunes and Balearic beauties into a groove laden acoustic style.
So it's with great excitement that the first outing of the Balearic Orchestra will be at this years Green Man. The core group for the festival is formed of Stephen on guitars, Kieran on vibes, Tom Page from rocketnumbernine on drums, Jon Thorne from Lamb on bass, Jeremy Radway from PlayerPiano on keyboards. Joining them onstage for vocal duties are Lou Rhodes (Lamb), Serafina Steer, Olivia Chaney, Lindsay West / David Millar (Love.Stop.Repeat) and some very very special guests to be announced nearer the time.
For one night only, let the Balearic Orchestra transport you to the sands of the white island for a groove laden hour of classic tunes that have soundtracked most of our night times and raised quite a few hands in the air, re-interpreted especially for a Green Man audience.
This show was my highlight at Greenman 2010!! Thanks to Greenman radio for the tip during the morning show that day!!!
