Kerala,January 25(ANI): Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple is one of the most ancient temples in the (MAP IN) southern Indian state of Kerala.Sabari Hills, the sacred abode of Lord Ayyappa, are thronged by millions of devotees throughout the year. The temple is situated on the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats,at an altitude of 914 m above sea level and is accessible only by foot. The main feature of the temple is that it is open to everybody. All the pilgrims whether rich or poor, learned or illiterate are all equal before Lord Ayappa. Cutting across the religious barriers, thousands of Hindu pilgrims, on their way to the hill top temple, pay respects at a mosque on the way that is dedicated to saint Vavar or Babar.Legend has it that Vavar and his army attacked the Pandalam kingdom and Ayyappa was sent to defend the country.

  • Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa! Thanks for sharing. I had been there, and was very interesting. The journey, the devotees, the place, the temples and the 18 holy steps are always in my mind.
