@Ditch2012 That wasn't by choice, though. Look at the original Star Wars movie (not a remade/remastered version), and realize how weak the production/effects technology was compared to today. Anyone with a laptop today has more firepower than entire studios back then. the 80s videos were so often cheesy because that was the best they could do. Not sure what the excuse was for our hair and/or clothes, though.

There's certainly a reason this music started to resonate with Gen-Y: Mom & Dad kept "Dare","Pleasure Victim","Music For The Masses",etc. Add the internet to the equation and you've got yourself another world that existed before GaGa & the lot.

Everyone always thinks that the music they grew up with or anything 15 years old was the greatest, and whatever is current is "generic crap". Every generation grows up to believe this. There were people in 1982 who thought this was garbage and thought everything went down hill in the 70s.
