Title IX, passed 35 years ago, has enabled girls to participate in organized sports. However, many girls are getting far less exercise these days. Katie Couric says it's time to reverse the trend. (CBSNews.com)

  • Title IX is no different than welfare or affirmative action. It's income redistribution among college sports programs. Successful men's sports finance women's sports that are big money losers (all of them) and the smaller men's sports (that still turn a small profit for the schools) are removed and eliminated. Brave new world we're going into. 'Fairness' means discrimination.

  • My college once had a football team. But now we do not because of Title IX. I cannot even play football at my major college because Title IX forced my school to shut down its football program so it could fund... the women's golf team. The football program- a well known and massively celebrated American tradition in major colleges, disappeared. Thanks Title IX for stealing my dreams and those of so many others.

Which, even if true, is irrelevant to the application of Title IX. When a girl IS interested in participating in sports, she should have an equal opportunity to do so (in taxpayer-funded programs).

  • @tuffenuf22

(sarcasm) you got it all figured out. Truth is women in general are just flat out not as interested in sports as men

  • We need to fight sexism with the same tools used to fight racism. No more "separate but equal" segregation of womens sports. I don't want our daughters being told that they are the fastest "girl". Have , for instance, a track team with a dozen or so slots, and allow all students to compete for those slots, regardless of sex. An equal footing for all. It will make the tiny handful of remaining women athletes better respected for being able to compete with men.

  • fuck title ix

  • dont thank Title IX for that thank all of the sexist manhating feminist that passed it so it could discriminate against male sports all in the name of "equality" yea rite

  • i feel for you.
