No effects were used in this recording. The guitars are plugged directly into the VOX AC30. The reverb you hear is coming from the VOX's spring reverb.

The Amp settings used were:
MASTER VOLUME = 25%
REVERB = 40%
BASS = 50%
TREBLE = 50%
CHANNEL 2 VOLUME SET AT:
For the Les Paul it was set at 50%
For the Stratocaster it was set at 65%
for the Telecaster it was set at 65%

Mic used for recording was a Shure SM57.

I've always liked the tone of a VOX AC30. No matter what type of guitar you play through it, the sound is great with the amp's tube distortion.

  • They all sound great, but for you, which one has the best playability?

  • @buckhorn333 They are all different. They all have size 10 strings however. The Les Paul has the classic fat neck (not good for small hands). The Tele has a small classic neck, very easy to play and opposite of the Les Paul. The Strat has a maple neck with medium frets which is slightly larger than the tele. The Strat also has a maple fretboard which again is a different feel. Easiest to play would be the Tele.

  • Nice job. Ive been looking at comparison between les pauls and other guitars. by your video is the best. keep it up.

    would it be fair to say that les paul has generally 'warm' tone whereas the strats n tele has brighter sound?

  • @76radiotricks Thanks! Strats have a more biting "bright" tone than a Les Paul. Les Pauls have a more "fat" sound, which is also as you noted "warmer".

  • this is the best comparison i've ever seen...

  • @Nr1Commentator Thanks!

  • how on earth did you manage to make 3 very different guitars sound almost exactly the same?

  • This is one of the best comparisons I have ever seen. Same song, immediate changes so one can hear the difference in sound. Nice job! What is your favorite?

  • Oh my Goodness the Vox ac30, les paul, strat and tele i saw the title and i thought this is going to be Legendary!! Amazing song choice "Limelight" its one of my favorite Rush songs! Good job bro this is the best video ive seen to compare the three... I personally think the Les Paul smoked em both, but thats just my opinion =)

  • excellent comparison

  • I vote for the LP..

  • I have same Les Paul and Tele..know exactly what you mean man, both are great..but if someone asked me why one was slightly better..honestly couldn't answer..both great guitars..both have something unique =/

  • les paul sounds thick, while the strat has more twang.. personally i like the sound of the strat but i love the feel and the action of the les paul

  • I honestly disliked a few things about the Les Paul as I was always a Strat guy, but once I bought a Les Paul I really started to appreciate the feel, look and sound.

  • Good comparison, but it would have been nice to hear the tonal differences of the neck pickups between the three.

  • Thanks for this. I'm looking for my first guitar and was drawn to the LP styles, as conventional wisdom is humbuckers provide chunk and coils twang better. But aesthetically, I'm drawn to the Tele. I could hear slight differences between all 3, but that's all they were. Playability comments were very useful too, as a beginner that's important, although probably still subjective.

  • @jAMMAN798 Thanks man.
