  • I have four of these.. The non Hi-Fi models.. I haven't come across this model in a thrift shop yet.. I do have the JVC Hi-Fi version.. Even though the Zeniths are made by JVC. I think the Zeniths are better. The control layout is much better, and the Zeniths of these types are less problematic..

  • I found one like this yesterday at the thrift store......so glad to see someone on YouTube with one.....however, the thrift store here wanted $25 for theirs! ALL their VCRs were $25! Their DVD+VCR Combo unit was $50!! No way I would pay $25 for a VHS...no matter how unique it is.....

  • The design is similar to Harman Kardon's newer AV receivers, old skool is coming back

  • what a weird zenith vcr i glad i dont pop in tapes in vcrs like this what if it damage it.

  • @Vinylrecordsneverdie

It's a JVC; Hitachi never made any VCRs for Zenith. The only companies to make Zenith decks were Sony (for Zenith Beta decks), JVC and GoldStar/LG.

In addition, JVC was the only company to make standalone VHS decks that loaded cassettes this way, including as rebranded OEM such as this Zenith.

A similar model that uses the same mechanical design includes the JVC HR-D470U.

  • buddy you got a terrific deal ! three dollars for that ? a great old Zenith VCR ! in '87 I bought my first VCR and it too was Zenith (not like yours) had it about 10 years .

  • I came across one of these a few months back. I really wanted it but it was trashed. I later regreted not getting the model number so I could search ebay. A quick search of youtube and bam ...your video. Thanks for sharing.

  • The 2 vertical units also loaded the tape sideways like this one.

  • Zenith also had 2 models of vertical VCRs on the market in 1987. I remember seeing them, and would love to come across one. They would have been built by JVC, which would later release some of their own vertical models.

  • That is really unique. Never saw a VCR load like that one. Amazing find and it work perfect too.
