19 highly admired PMOI members were killed in an ambush by the RGC in Iran on 7 February 1960. Amongst them were two pregnant women members who were injured and killed under torture. Moussa Khiabani, Ahsraf Rajavi and 18 other members were in a house undercover at a time when Khomein had already released a religious fatwa against PMOI members and relatives. This fatwa was released because, they has refused to vote for a religious state insisting on Democracy as the main pivotal instrument to form any government. They believed in separation of church and state and begun a wide spread campaign of in lighting the people of consequences of non-participation in the political arena. Their members and supporters and families became targets of government hired thugs, many were killed, blown up, abducted and disappeared and imprisoned while the Mullahs had yet not inspired a Velayat Faghih - religiously bound dictatorship based on one man's rule on Earth- The PMOi even then did not turn to armed struggle and resisted the temptation offered intentionally by Khomeini , to use every space of freedom left in the society. By the time they had to flee Iran, at least 500 000 of their members and supporters were reported missing or killed, while they decided to escape a genocide, and escaped from Iran into various countries seeking safety, only to discover that, the same countries were plotting with Iranian rulers to hand them over or use them as bate in political and nuclear dialog.
