One of the first electric fans, which used a light bulb to create electrical resistance to control the speed of the motor.

  • what do you run that fan of?

  • It's connected to standard AC but has a bridge rectifier mounted in-line to convert the power to DC. I never leave it plugged in when not being demonstrated, even with the switch turned off there are many live connections on the motor.

  • what are theas fans like as a daily runer ?

  • I have not been able to reply to comments lately...anyone else have this problem. At any rate, I'd say that yes, in an ideal setting a fan cover would not be needed, but imagine a hot night back in the dark 1800's when you wake up in the middle of the night and you get a finger sliced on your way to go take a pee.

  • put a big enough bulb in there might work as a heater? just kidding

  • put a big eniugh bulb in there might work as a heater? just kidding

  • That is just a beautiful piece of history. But I weep for the long lost era of personal responsibility that such a machine represents. Simply "don't touch" was enough... Awesome!

  • SO BEAUTIFUL INDEED! Nerly lost Your curtain! I was just about to say oops! It`s going to grab it when it DID!!! Very AWESOME FAN INDEED!

  • Very nice piece, and wonderful to see it in operation. (Warehouse 13 called...they want their fan back!)
