Winters Child


On that cold day my old dog shivered
Above the blades of frozen grass




Where Autumns final breath glistened
Like fine crystal glass.

Amidst the crimson and gold leaves she curled
Her frail body onto the ground
With snowflakes falling she left behind this world
My dear pal, my faithful hound.

The Sounds of romping pups and kitten mews
Fell silent to the screaming blue jay
Coloring crayons of one hundred hues
Were boxed and then stored away.

Returning home some two hundred seasons hence
When crocus petals mingled with my tears
I became the melting snow upon the fence
In this, the springtime of my later years.

I just lost my older 13 year old dog this past Sunday when he suddenly took ill and 90 minutes later passed away at the Vet's. This poem and choice of music reminds me of what a great dog he was and brings tears to my eyes.

I live across an elementary school, and there was a stray that would walk to school with the kids every morning...alas, this stray, whom the kids named Sam was hit and killed yesterday...

I and many kids are sad. no longer will there be a dog waiting outside the school gates eager to walk with the kids.

Thank you for this,my pet Siamese cat Ting has been missing now for a week,he went out one morning and we haven't seen him since, I've been searching for him with no luck, he's been my friend and pal for 10 years and I miss him so much
