It seems these old hit and miss motors would run given any excuse. With you building this one from scavenged parts it illistrates the value these motors had for years on the farms. In those days it was an ordeal to go to town for parts, thus a good machine would work regardless of it's condition and fuel. Good work!

there's more blow by than actual exhaust

@WiIdbiII drill it out and rethread it if necessary for a larger spark plug

I have one my dAD HAD SINCE 1932 THE SPARK PLUG RUSTED OFF IN IT if i could just get it out my dad told me it runs just fine.

@bugz000 Once the correct operating RPM is reached the govener opens the exhaust valve to allow it to "freewheel" using the energy of the spinning flywheel. Then as RPM's drop the govener kicks the exhaust valve back into action. Also notice the intake valve only opens because of the suction created.

how does the govenor on this work? :o
-
sounds just like Grandma Betsy's old vibrator
-
@mrmkc2 they have oilers, you can see one above the back of the cylinder yhat would oil the bearings
-
Pretty sure these had small 'oilers' on each bearing small tubes-cups, seen them before, now and again you went around topping them up & bearings were fed by gravity-capillary-drip feed.
-
how do you lubricate these things if theres no crankcase to put oil in
-
can this run on kerosene?
