@s2trash I'm not sure I agree. Sure, in 1966, the Who softened their studio material considerably, but their song the Ox from the previous year is proto-metal/proto-avant-garde.
.. and the Small Faces were definitely louder in 1966 (well, early in that year, but with the recordings of that year that are on 'From the Beginning', changes became visible). -
