September 7, 2000 - Capcom today made it official via the Japanese gaming press: Bio Hazard 0 (aka: Resident Evil 0) is now a Gamecube title. Although already in advanced state of development, Capcom opted to stop working on the N64 version and is instead using the scenario and character designs to create its first Gamecube game.

Rumors about a Gamecube version of Capcom's anticipated survival horror date back as far as October last year, but Capcom has never gone on record to confirm the reports. The move is reminiscent of Capcom's cancellation of the PlayStation version of Onimusha and the decision to develop the title for PlayStation 2 instead.

While this may initially seem like bad news to Nintendo 64 owners, an exclusive RE Gamecube title is sure to broaden the console's overall appeal. Considering the fact that scenario and game design of Resident Evil 0 are already complete, Capcom should have no problem readying the high-profile title for Gamecube's launch in late 2001. Whereas Nintendo 64 received a Resident Evil port late on in its lifecycle, the availability of an original Resident Evil game at launch should help Gamecube increase its momentum, especially in Japan where the Bio Hazard series is counted as one of the most successful videogame franchises around.

Set up as a prequel to the other Resident Evil games, RE0 cast players in the role of Rebecca Chambers as she's thrown into a world of horror and mystery surrounding the Umbrella Corporation. This is basically your chance to find out how all of those zombies, dogs and other mutants in the first Resident Evil got so popular around Raccoon City.

  • THe n64 had better graphics than the Playstation because if you compared Resident Evil 1 with Mario 64 You would see that Mario had better graphics they are more colorful and the textures are better.

  • @Zectro15Tero No. They're not. Not by a long shot. The N64 surpasses the PS1 in every way imaginable. I mean, for crying out loud, the PS1 didn't even have a software renderer! It was all hardware rendering, which made the games look extremely pixelated. I remember playing MGS1 for my PS1 and literally taking the CD and busting it on my back porch along with the console because the graphics were so fucking horrible.

  • i kinda wish they made this =(

  • @b00mYou

    MGS graphics orrible my dick..

  • @jmanideth Not only that, they said that the games would be inexpensive, because cartridges has high cost of manufacturing, but look CD and DVD's prices nowadays... Programmed obsolecence, CD and DVDs die faster than cartridges, and the laser is shit

  • @jmanideth i agree, same for the older computers like the megadrive, amiga etc. I think the gamecube is a classic console, it had some really great games like luigi's mansion and the resi evil remake and it was just about gaming. The wii is where it went to shit, trying to focus on loosing weight and appealing to more than just gamers, that was a sellout to nintendo

  • @earthquake1700 i dont know anyone who would disagree with that. nintendo 64 was released later and was always known for better graphics

  • this game exsist on n64?! O_O

  • i was never more excited for a video game

  • that looks great. if n64 was disc-based, it would probably be indisputably the best system ever... sony playstation would've been another 3do or sega saturn. nintendo would've gotten final fantasy, maybe even metal gear, in addition to the fantastic first and second party titles (hello, rare!!). the gaming world would've been a lot different if nintendo had jumped on the cd bandwagon.

  • After seeing this on N64, im glad! they released it on gamecube haha!
