This is the perfect delight! Because it's been made so poorly, by so many bartenders, for so long... it has gotten a reputation as being a slushy girly drink. BUT... if you make it THIS way... the way I show you here... it is a CLASSIC! A delicious, and fresh cocktail, that is both satisfying and tasty for men and women alike.
The name Daiquirí is also the name of a beach near Santiago, Cuba, and an iron mine in that area. The cocktail was supposedly invented about 1900 in a bar named Venus in Santiago, near the mine, by a group of American mining engineers. Stories persist that the daiquiri was invented, when these engineers ran out of gin while entertaining American guests, so they used rum, which was ever present in Cuba. The drink evolved naturally due to the prevalence of lime and sugar.
Originally the drink was served in a tall glass packed with cracked ice. A teaspoon of sugar was poured over the ice and the juice of one or two limes was squeezed over the sugar. Two or three ounces of rum completed the mixture. The glass was then frosted by stirring with a long-handled spoon. Later the Daiquirí evolved to be mixed in a shaker with the same ingredients. Cheers!

  • I would use 1 ounce of pureed fruit. The one I've shown here is the 'classic' presentation. The blended kind with fruit in it is a modern adaptation.

    Cheers!

  • Looks pretty nice, I just wanted to know if for the strawberry one how much fruit do you use? Here the one with fruit is served in a tall glass but I prefer this martini glass presentation.
