Najib Abdul Razak has been sworn in as the country's sixth prime minister, after Abdullah Ahmad Badawi resigned to take responsibility for the ruling party's worst election showing in four decades.

But he faces a myriad of challenges, including an economy badly hit by the global downturn, racial divisions in the country and opposition allegations of corruption and links to a murder case.

Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reports.

  • sigh.. this stupid country with its stupid ministers.. I think U.S should just take over this damned place with brute force since this is the way the stupid malaysian mp's rule the country anyway..

  • seriously ? why do we even have to have different parties according to the different races ..why can t we form one party with all the different races in it and then rule the country fairly....DAP, PAS, bla bla bla..how ridiculous..I hope the new Prime Minister looks into making Malaysia a peaceful country all over again without racial prejudices and hopefully restores the country's current economical state.

  • well he denied that he was in charge of the mongolian lady's murder, but how come the prime minister of one whole country involved to murder in the past... what kind of scary country is it...

NO to BN! YES to Pakatan Rakyat!

Enough of ethnic politics; enough of ethnic discrimination; enough of ethnic hatred.

NO to BN! YES to Pakatan Rakyat!

Let's have DAP, PKR, and PAS join hands to smash the BN hegemony and end social ills, corruption, crime, inflation, and election irregularities once and for all!

NO to BN! YES to Pakatan Rakyat!

    Reformasi! (Reform!)

Malaysia boleh! (Malaysia can do it!)
