I can't speak for woodwinds and brass but perhaps violinists should thank Berlioz for writing such fast, fantastic, fancy, flashy flourishes - they helped push orchestral technique further and further. Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Wagner, Stravinsky, and Prokofiev did too. Thanks guys.
For those who graciously inquired to me where I acquired the information about Berlioz- I read it in his memoirs. A bonus-not from his biography- is that his favorite guitarist was the Italian Zani de Ferranti-a somtetime visitor to Paris and guitarist to King of Belgium.
Berlioz played guitar . I'd like to know how he learned orchestration .He did a lotta conducting went to Moscow .Knew Mussorgsky & other non-traditional composers. Liszt helped him a great deal. Wagner sole much
but W. had better ideas. I have not read about him learning flute. Somehow he got to be a great orchestrator calling for 3 trombones and cornets &trumpets. I didn't know this overture. wrote 9. where do u people get your info ? A lotta adolescents here - I surmise.
Actually the composer considered himself a decent hack flautist and guitarist. He later reflected that his airy spacious use of harmony (unlike composers such as Bach,Beethoven, and Brahms who had developed their musicality accustomed to the tight harmonic clusters of the keyboard) came precisely therefrom- as the guitar is much less fond of closed structures.
ahh.. estas composiciones.. explosionan.. mis sentidos.. cuando las escucho.. me relajan. y las disfruto..aaa.... :)
