Told through the eyes of tenants, city planners, business owners, scholars, and politicians, The Vanishing City exposes the real politic behind the alarming disappearance of New Yorks beloved neighborhoods, the truth about its finance-dominated economy, and the myth of inevitable change. Artfully documented through interviews, hearings, demonstrations, and archival footage, the film takes a sober look at the citys luxury policies and high-end development, the power role of the elite, and accusations of corruption surrounding land use and rezoning. The film also links New York trends to other global cities where multinational corporations continue to victimize the middle and working classes.

  • Thank you! There was a huge turnout and we won Best Short Doc in the Harlem Film Festival and Best Feature Documentary in Williamsburg

  • Tyler, You haven't seen the movie so you don't know what you are talking about really. We agree with you, but at the same time most people don't know that over $500 million a year has been dolled out in tax subsidies for luxury development. Also 1 out of every 6 square feet was rezoned to allow luxury building. I think it's ironic that we the middle class tax payers are paying for our own displacement. Come see the movie tonight at 8pm at the Harlem Int'l Film Festival.

  • found this article emailed to me sept 25 2010 - jen-senko-and-fiore-derosa-directors-for-the-new-documentary-vanishing-city-nyc-katzs-deli-on-houston-street JOE NEUMAIER - and posted your trailer along with links to your article in the new york times daily news on idea girl consulting word press - my movie, director, producer, writers blog - linda randall i'm on indie producer net too :)

  • @TylerLombardi - We also have a right to vote & call our local 'reps' to voice our opinions about where our tax dollars should go. I mean come on, if you can afford to live in those luxury buildings, then you can afford to foot the bill and don't need the guy who makes $70K a year & still can't afford to live there to pay for it. You're right, we are strong, we don't have to hand over our hard earned money to some gluttonous pig. Fight back, and protect your money, your home and your city!

  • if you can't afford to live in the city, you have no RIGHT to live in the city. You have a right to live, and to purse happiness. Sometimes that pursuit takes you to a place where you can afford that pursuit. Sometimes it's not where you want to go, but where you have to go. Adapt and make due. You are strong enough.

  • It's a very sad story...one very much appreciated by real NY'ers..
