The power dynamic between secretaries Peggy and Joan is one of the best parts of "Mad Men", a new television series about advertising executives in 1960.

From episode 1.05: Peggy gets in over her head when she divulges a secret to Joan.

From the writer of "The Sopranos", AMC's excellent original series "Mad Men" airs Sunday nights at 10pm: http://media.amctv.com/originals/madmen

  • Are you kidding? Joan clearly has insecurity issues with women who don't fall into the typical gender roles that she's comfortable with. Look at how she tries to guide Betty into her world at the beginning, emphasizing sexuality. Look at her passive aggressive comments every time Betty manages to move socially upwards.

It's not a knock on the character, rather it shows how deep the writing is and how every character has great flaws.

  • Hell yeah, she is. She's got more curves than a coke bottle.

  • I love watching these two on screen together. They work so well together; it's like a dance.

  • @chrisludwig29 if by betty you mean peggy?

  • @solarfire1988 She is a fabulous actress. But she has such an astonishing physical presence (and the way she presents herself- the posture, the walk- is also a credit to her acting skill) that it just makes you stare in flabbergasted delight. She represents a lost feminine ideal in our modern world, and again, it is such a joy to see her that sometimes folks can forget the art that goes into the character.

  • I can't stand Joan. She's hot, but that's about all she's so overwhelmingly bitchy, I can't like her.

  • love this scene. hilarious

  • @chrisludwig29 agreed, the flaws on each character make them so real.

  • @chrisludwig29

I think you're confusing Betty with Peggy

  • Easily the best show by far on tv. Great writing, great acting by an ensemble cast. I can't wait for it to return.

  • @qopus66 you're right, she's one of the best. I still maintain my view though. She's so beautiful people forget she's also a wonderful actress!

  • She's not a very good actress, she's one of the best actresses to ever grace the csreen large or small.
