@BlaineBingham If you buy Superman the movie, choose the 4-disc dvd. There, you can see the uncut version. And one more thing, you can see The Making of Superman, How Christopher Reeve was casting, how they found Lois Lane in Margot Kidder. All of them including the 50's Superman animated cartoon series.

I think it was a perfect choice to cast Marlon Brando as Jor-El as much as it was the perfect choice to cast Christopher Reeve as Superman.

The basis for actors for playing Superman, whether or not they resemble Christopher Reeve - the real life Superman.

The producers of the movie really got it right by going for an unknown actor to play Superman and they hit a home run when they chose Christopher Reeve.
