Music by Mitch Leigh
Lyrics by Joe Darion
Performed by Simon Gilbert (dubbing Peter O'Toole) and Men's Chorus

Lyrics:

I have dreamed thee too long
Never seen thee or touched thee
But known thee with all of my heart
Half a prayer, half a song
Thou hast always been with me
Though we have been always apart

Dulcinea... Dulcinea...
I see heaven when I see thee, Dulcinea
And thy name is like a prayer
An angel whispers... Dulcinea... Dulcinea

If I reach out to thee
Do not tremble and shrink
From the touch of my hand on thy hair
Let my fingers but see
Thou art warm and alive
And no phantom to fade in the air

Dulcinea... Dulcinea...
I have sought thee, sung thee
Dreamed thee, Dulcinea

Now I've found thee
And the world shall know thy glory
Dulcinea... Dulcinea

  • Ironically, to me, the best version of this song, outdoing even Richard Kiley, is the "throwaway" reprise done here by the boys chorus, as it oddly and singularly captures the most beautiful notes of the song on the lines "like a prayer an angel whispers" and "the world shall know thy glory," which truly make the song a masterpiece. Too bad about the dub here, which cuts into the song.

  • If you can, read "Iron John" by Robert Bly. Happy New Year 2011

  • @hpwolf123 Hungarian.

  • I love this song!

  • she has some nice...jugs

  • I believe his "insanity" is the only thing keeping him happy and grounded in a world where the establishment i.e. the Inquisition tries to dominate the human spirit into its accepted perception of complicity and obedience. He is the sanest of them all; he is is own lifeline. And his heart is full of the purity and clarity of love...

  • My favorite song in the movie. ^^ But can I ask what language is being spoken at 2:13 and 2:50???

  • @kitster900 According to the (expanded) description it is not O'Toole singing. It is Simon Gilbert. I agree it sounds like I imagine O'Toole would sing.

  • @kitster900 None of the actors in this version are known for their singing, but they are all great actors, which is why, in my opinion, this is the definitve version.
