Not only have I seen DC solo w/Tool, you should check out a Pygmy Love Circus show someday....granted, no 'extended jazz monster' playing but hey he's a rock drummer -a "basher" (ie little wrist, mostly forearms). Still a great player, one of my fav's. Someone asked one of my old bands 'why no drum solo?' and guitarist replied I pretty much constantly solo...I've learned to mellow that out a lot. FWIW I'd love to see Buddy Rich playing Aenima as much as Carey doing big band. Or maybe not.

you know lookin at the original comment rrdrums made I agree I cant ever find a drum solo of danny carey , that being said id take a rhythmic guy like carey of a soloist like buddy rich any day, however this does put him lower on the all time ranking with guys like steve gadd vinnie colautia dave weckl joe morello and tony williams ya know guys who can groove and solo.
