I agree with you. I just watch the film. Firth was brilliant and the other cast members were excellent. But this trailer does misrepresent the film. I guess Firth is a sex symbol to a lot of women and the money people didn't want to potentially alienate any audience.

Don't worry; you find out that he's gay moments into the movie. The same is true for Christopher Isherwood's novel of the same name (on which the movie is loosely based). I just (somewhat cynically) wonder if whoever was in charge of marketing the movie wanted to distance the film from the main character's sexual orientation. All of the ads for the movie are equally misleading as is the movie's poster.

Great movie, but the trailer barely even hints that the main character is gay. Watching without having seen the movie, you'd think he's with Julianne Moore's character...
