  • Is it the species from the SW of Australia, Tandanus bostocki (freshwater cobbler)?

  • I have never heard of a "Tandanus bostocki"

My catfish is a "Plotosus tandanus" Commonly known as Eel-tailed Catfish, Jewfish, Tandon, 'Tandanus tandanus'

They are found in Murray-Darling basin in North Western Victoria and Western New South Wales.

As far as I know there are two types of species: Tandanus & Neosilurus

'Tandanus bostocki' would be a name for one of these two species or maybe a third species that I am not aware of

  • hi, do you know what species this is?

  • It's a Tandanus Catfish, sometimes known as Dew Fish. Native to Australia

  • sweet as cant wait to see it, im getting a camera for my bday in like 3 weeks i will try and post a vid of me tandanus

  • That would be cool. Let me know once you have uploaded the video :-)

  • I'm not sure about this species of catfish but I believe they don't like bright light and prefer to hide in or under stuff. I would give him some more shelter/hiding places and install a lower wattage bulb. Nice cat! =)

  • It's illegal to take a Tandanus from the water in most States as far as I am aware.. Pet shops sell these guys by the hundreds each week, and other natives. Farmed in commercial tanks, or something.
