    Search for "vortex ring". It has nothing to do with sound at all.

    The hole creates an air vortex that can travel this far.

    There are smaller toy cannons that do the same.

    I'm kinda perplexed. Obviously there's a wave of sound that disturbs the air much faster than the wave of disturbance that blows out the candles. What's the difference between those two waves? The second wave seems to actually be transporting the air, but couldn't you use a really loud sound to snuff the candles too if it were tightly focused? Like an audio laser?
