The Galloping Goose, D & S engine No. 486, and the Eureka & Palisade at Railfest, Aug. 2009.The Eureka & Palisade Narrow Guage RR was constucted in 1873 between Palisade and Eureka,NV. approx. 85 mi. It was constructed to connect Eureka, the center of a rich silver mining area with the National railway network at Palisade. It was abandoned in 1938. The Eureka 4-4-0 is the railroads only surviving locomotive. The Galloping Goose was restored to running condition by 1998, its first run was in Chama, N.M. and has made several runs at the D & S Railroad during Railfest, and at Chama, N.M.

Yes, it really is. They didn't run the 315 on the D&S last year, but it will be there this year.

#4 is not that big an engine, it is hand fired with wood and the D&S grade is a bit steep. All combine to restrict the load it can pull.

Yes it was. In the begining they used Pierce Arrows but as they wore out the RGS replaced them with GMC powered school busses. The GMC was unrepareable on number 5 so we replaced it with a Reo engine. It's done real well.
