I cant agree that there was no "magic" I was only able to see this production on the big screen (I live in Australia!!) and believe me, we were spellbound, and nearly everyone had their tissues out at the end!

The singing is okay (don't wait for legato or style), the direction childish (yes, partly ridiculous), what you would call "kitschig" in german, BUT THERE IS NO MAGIC AT ALL!Compare this moment in West Side Story or Zeffirelli's Shakespeare movie or the John Cranko ballet...

Also, I understand that to judge about stage direction difficult looking at short clips. In theater it created atmosphere and did not have anything not necessary on stage.

Oh, thank you for "not horrible"...I attended 3(three) performance, it was brilliant and better each time. You should see how audience greatful to him. This most beautiful, rare timbre, musicianship, personality and nobility in acting makes people so exiting. It was huge mass of people looking for tickets. And it is everywhere when Mr. Villazon sings.
