@f1loyal I have a set made in 1900.

The YMCA Boy's Chorus & Bellringers played a set also. Check out Marlow and Fran Cowan on youtube.

Great video. My father had a set of shaker chimes and this brought back great memories of him. He played by "ear" and would entertain for hours. Thanks for posting.

How do they work?
Magicalapple97 5 months ago
@Magicalapple97 The 3 silver tubes on each shaker chime are tuned one octave apart. As the chime is shaken, the base of the metal tube, (which has two notched tongues), strikes the wood which has a slot in it for these 'tongues' to go back and forth and that is what rings the tube and sounds the note.

Did you know the largest set of shaker chimes had 49 notes? it went from G2 to G6.

try to search under the name angklung which is a traditional asian/thailand instrument or perhaps indonesian or cambodian. Here in the phils.we also have this instrument called angklung, made of bamboo not chimes.

@chenwenhua2269 Yes...I believe Degan was inspired by that very instrument in the creation of the Shaker Chimes.
